Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
A New Type of Glaucoma Therapy

Fagadau & Hawk recently acquired this state-of-the-art laser. It was approved by the FDA in March, 2001, for the treatment of open angle glaucoma. The procedure is performed in the office and takes about 15 minutes.

How it works:
The SLT laser opens drainage canals in the eye, allowing fluid inside the eye to exit easier. It is different from other lasers in that is does not burn tissue, but treats specific selected areas of the drainage system leaving untreated areas intact.

Benefits:

  • Lowers intraocular pressure
  • Eliminate or reduce the need for glaucoma medication
  • Can be repeated
  • Does not damage tissue
Eligibility:
SLT may be an alternative for glaucoma patients who wish or need to decrease glaucoma medications or who have had unsuccessful traditional glaucoma laser treatment.
